Another Stolen Laptop Causes Data Breach Another Stolen Laptop Causes Data Breach

Have you taken measures to protect your laptop computers? And the data on those computers?
If you've been tracking the recent data breach news you've probably noticed that a lot of these breaches are being caused by stolen or lost laptop computers... along with the lack of care taken to protect and encrypt the data on those laptops.

Well, here is yet another example of this trend. Computerworld reports:

A laptop computer containing the names and personal information of an undisclosed number of retirees of grocery store chain Ahold USA disappeared last month after it was placed in checked baggage on a commercial U.S. flight and the bag was lost by the airline.

This combines two of my favorite pet peeves: lackadaisical data security and poor service from airlines. I mean, who in their right mind would ever check a bag containing a laptop computer on a commercial air flight? Yikes!

I'll continue to post brief blog entries like this one as data breaches are reported. Please feel free to post your comments on this trend in any of these blog entries...
